Originally known as SAIF (Sexual Abuse in Families), SafeCare was founded in Perth in March 1989. It is a non-profit organisation under the Western Australian Associations Incorporation Act 2015. It is also  register under the Charitable Collections Act 1946 (WA), a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission (ACNC) and a Public Benevolent Institution and Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) with the Australian Taxation Office.

As a DGR, donations to SafeCare are full tax deductible.
